Following your Purpose is an amazing journey but it’s not always an easy one.
Uncovering your Purpose is the first piece of the puzzle which can feel confusing or challenging to many people. Some may even question whether they have a purpose. As a side note, yes you do!
Once you get clear on what it is you’re meant to be sharing in the world, the next step is finding a way to live it. And just to clarify, your Purpose is not only what you are meant to do in the world, it’s who you are meant to be.
The beauty of having a true understanding and connection to your Purpose is that it gives you the fuel and momentum to keep going on days when it feels challenging to do so. I find it can be a bit of a rollercoaster ride but amazingly, not a ride I want to get off of. I do however, reach out for support whenever I can.
So what can you do to help you stay on your path of meaning and purpose, even when things feel scary or uncertain?
Here are 3 easy things to do that will keep you inspired to continue to discover and live your true life Purpose:
1) Create a touchstone that connects you daily to your Purpose: Whether you feel confident that you know what your Purpose is or if you are just starting out on the journey, find some sort of representation of what you know so far. It could be a mission statement if that works for you, a word cloud of words or phrases that mean a lot to you or it could be an image that deeply resonates with you. For some people, symbols work really well and could be something you wear as a necklace or have as a keychain. What is important is that you see these things on a daily basis.
2) Connect with like-minded people: Surrounding yourself with people who are on a similar path to you can help you feel supported in many ways. Sometimes, the people in our lives are very supportive of the choices we make and other times, they may not understand. It’s important to connect with others who are either going through a similar journey or have already done so. There are many ways you can find these people; through friends and colleagues or by joining something like a Meet-Up or other social group.
3) Get support: Following your Purpose is often the road less travelled, and so sometimes it can feel like we’re on our own. It can feel overwhelming and we can question whether we are doing the right thing. When you experience these feelings, the best thing you can do is to reach out for support. Support can take the form of a close friend with whom you feel you can share your challenges and successes. It can also be from a mentor you trust and feel comfortable with. There are group programs that may fit what you are looking for, or you may consider working with someone like a coach to help you get clear on the direction you are going and help you create a roadmap or plan of action.
I truly believe we are all here to do something meaningful with our lives and I know that we all have unique skills, gifts, talents and preferences that are meant to be expressed in their fullest potential.
The world needs you and your unique contributions.
Even though the road may be windy or foggy, it’s worth the ride!
